Why Did we start rebel pcs
Rebel PCs didn't start with a business plan.
It started with frustration.
My wife wanted a gaming PC.
It should have been simple.
Originally my wife was looking at upgrading her gaming laptop she had for a while and wanted something with a bit more power for games she plays but she wasn't happy with what she was finding and then she added ‘I want it to be quiet’ as one of her ‘wants’.
This meant that while shopping in our local shop I was looking at the offerings and I just couldn't wrap my head around the amount that was on offer. Were they any good? Were they value for money? Was this just a crappy case with some shiny stuff slapped into it? Why are the power supplies not mentioned? Is this one stick of memory? What the hell am I looking at here? And the final nail was ‘is this all they have in the store????’.
too much choice
I've built PCs for years and worked across several areas of the technology industry. If I was struggling to understand what was actually being sold, what chance did someone new to PC gaming have? Then we went to look online and it was more of the same and my wife was overwhelmed by the volume of options and choices and styles.
No one should have to become a PC expert to buy a gaming PC.
The Falcon Northwest Inspiration
In the end she asked me to build it for her. It was after building my new set up and her one that I said to her the one I wished we could have in the UK was Falcon Northwest. Not because I wanted to be snobby or didn't like the UK offering but because they have such a cool and SIMPLE offering.
Yes you can configure it all but it's a simple option. Here are 4 cases to choose from 4 form factors and then you configure it. This got me thinking about how we could simplify this even more and I started sketching out ideas for systems and price brackets and looking at what I would want to see from a builder.
This is when I landed on the idea of offering (for the time being) only offering 4 systems. But not just any systems, systems that are configured and designed to give you the most value for the money you spend without compromising on the parts, not using weird SSD’s, single RAM sticks, dodgy power supplies or odd motherboards and old CPU pairings.
Why We Only Offer Four Systems
The more I thought about it, the more I realised this was something I had to do. As gamers, I think we're often overwhelmed by choice and pushed towards spending more than we need to. Yes we all love shiny things, and believe me I have done it myself, but we shouldn't have to put up with random parts and low quality components and companies driving you for all the upgrades. Of course, as PC gamers, we all know no setup is ever truly finished.
My underpinning thought was ‘Keep it simple!!!’
Keep buying a PC
SIMPLE
Once I had that thought it was then looking at what it would mean and I settled on the 4 levels. This meant that I had the premise of simplicity being met, then it was ‘what would I want out of these 4 levels of the setups that were on offer and this led to a while of comparisons and thought about the balance of the systems. This has led to the 4 systems you see on the site now.
Why "Rebel"?
Rebel wasn't chosen because it sounded cool. It was chosen because I wanted to build the kind of PC company I'd been looking for. One that wasn't afraid to question how things had always been done.
Not to be different.
To be better.
Rebel PCs isn't about building the fastest PC.
It's about building the right PC.
Simple systems.
Quality components.
Honest advice.
No unnecessary complexity.
No confusing product pages.
Just gaming PCs we'd happily recommend to our own friends and family.
