Why Only 4 systems?
One of the questions we've been asked most often is simple: why only four systems? The easy answer is: We've already done the difficult part: researching, testing and balancing the components so you don't have to.
When I was starting down this rabbit hole I was looking for some inspiration. I won’t lie, I have spent too much time watching tech videos and watching advents for other system builders, this has meant I have seen so many ads for PC builders across the pond in the USA.
As a curious person I've always wanted to look at what these companies offer and if they ship to the UK. Some do…. Most don't.
As I was going through so many websites it kept hitting me that the same issues I have seen here in the UK are the same in the USA. I have family in the USA and have the opportunity to visit PC stores and electronics shops in the States, and even at Micro Centre (or Nerdvana as it was described many times to me, and this would be 100% accurate) the same overwhelming volume of choices were still apparent.
Then I looked at Falcon Northwest. They kept their platforms simple, Four cases - that was it. Yes they still had so many options for you to go through but it was simplified to what they believed was the right fit for that case and form factor. The quality of their systems was something that struck me and I wanted to keep this in my mind when building my own business.
But why four not three or five? Well this is something that came naturally when I was planning on the builds for you. I didn't want to use random no-name products or AliExpress special parts that while might be ok but no one has ever heard of.
When planning the first build plans we looked at so many other sites and so many competitors we saw many odd choices in products and poorly balanced systems.
Clearly some were chosen for the price, some for the brand, some for performance. Yet it just didn't feel right when you looked at the parts on offer a 7800X3D and a 5050, while yes neither part is bad the X3D processors from AMD are gaming beasts, in this setup it would never stretch its legs with the Nvidia 5050.
So we landed on the 4 CPUs we did for balance for price, longevity and of course gaming ability. Knowing the CPU meant the rest of the systems would fall into place but throughout the process we constantly thought ‘is this actually a value for our customers?’ if the answer was either no or ‘maybe’ then it was put aside. In offering 4 platforms this allows us to standardise many things across our line up. While this is a business line it allows us to keep things simple for you. The simple reality is that this standardisation means we can find the best product for you and those savings mean that we can ensure that no matter which option you choose they will perform and we can balance the set up for you to enjoy for a very long time.
Will we ever increase the line up? Honestly in terms of the ‘built to order’ pre designs I would say no. Why? Well realistically these four systems will be consistently reviewed and managed to ensure that they are the best bang for the buck. However that doesn't mean that if you have an idea we can’t or won't do that for you, you have seen a case you REALLY love that's awesome let us know and we can set up some time and have a discussion and this is where our custom build page comes in.
And here is something we want you to know, custom doesn't mean insane prices. Custom is just that built for you, you are in control of the budget if you want to have the Rebel Core but in a Hyte Y70 touch that's great let us know and we can look at this for you! In the end, you are the heart of our community.
But while for the gaming side of things we will always offer the four base systems ready to be ordered we are always looking at the future and if there is something we see our customers asking for we may look at offering something new or even adapt our line up.
You never know, one day you may see streaming systems; ‘Rebel Studios’, any one????
We will always keep our eye on the markets and the way things are heading but we will always keep a single thought in mind.
Keep it simple.
Keep making systems WE would want to use.
Simple systems. Quality components. Honest advice.
No unnecessary complexity. No confusing product pages. Just gaming PCs we'd be proud to own ourselves.
